School Closure - 3 Jan 12

Following our success in raising funds for additional accommodation the construction of the new classroom started earlier this year and is now nearing completion. When the new build is finished there will be a need for all classes to move from their existing classrooms, a procedure which will require considerable logistics.

West Sussex County Council have agreed to provide a team of movers to help but the teaching staff will be required to pack, supervise the move and then unpack; the whole move is expected to take 2-3 days.

In order to minimise disruption the packing and furniture moving will take place at the end of this term and during the holiday period; however, the unpacking cannot take place until the new year so we are proposing to do this on Tuesday January 3^rd, which will mean that there will be no school for pupils on that day.

It is regretted our children will miss a day’s schooling and hope the reasons for this exceptional occurrence will be understood by all concerned.

Grand Opening of the ICT Suite and Library

On Wenesday 19 Oct 11, Chris Evans of radio and TV fame opened our new ICT and library area. Looking on were all the children and staff as well as governors and specially invited guests including many of those who have done so much to raise funds that have enabled this project to go ahead.

It was an amazing day and one which the children are sure never to forget, especially Siena Taylor who won the Mouse Mat competition (kindly sponsored by Class Cover from Billingshurst), Libby Morris who spoke to Chris on the radio that morning and Rebecca Tanner and Dom Sayers who welcomed him to our school.

Grand Opening of ICT Suite Postponed to 19 Oct 11

Due to unforeseen circumstances it has been necessary to delay the grand opening of our new ICT Suite by Chris Evans; the opening will now take place on the Wednesday of the following week i.e. 19 Oct 11. We apologise for any inconvenience and/or disappointment caused but hope that you will understand this change is due to matters beyond our control.

Rudgwick School in National Top 25%

Rudgwick Primary School are, this week, celebrating the exciting news that due to the endeavour and hard work of pupils, teachers, parents and governors the last year’s Key Stage 2 SATs results were so outstanding that the school is rated as one of those within the top 25% nationally. Rudgwick Primary has continued to achieve well above the national average and maintained an improving trend over the last 3 years. Writing to the school to congratualate them on this success Peter Griffiths, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Education and Schools, added "You have continued to achieve well above the national average and maintained an improving trend over the past three years. I am delighted that all your hard work and commitment to raising standards has been so successful."

This good news further enhances the outstanding reputation that the school has for not only supporting the academic needs and development of all pupils but also in developing the social, moral and spiritual needs of their learners. This was recently highlighted when the school was invited to perform in the final of the West Sussex DanceTime Celebration evening for the second year running and by reaching the finals of both the county netball tournament and the national school’s gymnastic competition.

The school is continuing to change and develop through a series of building projects that will result in enhanced resources for the Early Years Foundation Stage. They are looking forward to the opening of their new Multimedia area by Chris Evans on 12^th October.

The school will be holding an open morning on Tuesday 15^th November, at which everyone is welcome.

As you are aware there are a number of teaching staff changes for September due to Mrs. Wakeling’s maternity leave and Mr. Andrews’ secondment to Three Bridges Infant School.

In addition we have being going through a restructuring process with support staff both in and out of the classroom and there are a number of changes for September. These are listed below:

We have started transition programmes for all children and they will all spend the morning with their new teacher on Monday 18^th July.

There will also be an opportunity for you to meet your child’s class teacher during the week beginning 12^th September from 3.30 pm as follows (children will be supervised on the playground):

Monday12th Year 2 and Year 6, Tuesday 13^th Year 1, Wednesday 14^th Year 3 and Year 4 and

Thursday 15^th Year 5.

New Build Project Update

Following a meeting on 15 Feb 11 with members of West Sussex County Council we are delighted to announce that the ‘go ahead’ has been given to build a new classroom and to create a community room to be used for ‘extended school activities’. A project consultant has been appointed and the project brief agreed. It will now be a case of things moving forward at a fairly rapid speed. Further updates will follow as and when we have anything "concrete" (no pun intended - well OK it was!) to report.

Change of INSET Day - 26 Apr 11 (Cancelled) to 7 Jun 11

Due to the proximity of the public holiday for the Royal wedding being held on 29 Apr 11 it has been decided to cancel the INSET day planned for Tue 26 Apr 11; therefore, the school will now be open as normal on that day.

The cancelled INSET day has been re-arranged and will now be held on Tue 7 Jun 11; the term dates document will be amended in due course.

For some time we have wanted to let more people see our work and can now do so by using this website! From today we have launched a new page "Our School Work" that will link you to our publsihed works; the first is a piece from our able writing group and is called "Rudgwick School - Past and Present". While finding out about th school in the past the group found some interesting pictures that we have published in our photo gallery called "School - Past Views" - perhaps some of our older readers may recognise themselves!

Hello from our new Headteacher ...

Dear Parents and Carers

I am very excited about my new post as Headteacher of Rudgwick School, and wish to take this opportunity of introducing myself to you.

I have taught in a wide range of schools and locations. These have been in both East and West Sussex as well as being in both rural and urban locations. I am currently in my second Deputy Headship and have implemented many new strategies to improve learning, tecahing and the environment. I feel very strongly that as children only have one chance at their education, that it is my role as a school leader to ensure that this is the very best that can be offered. School must be fun, creative, safe, enjoyable and relevant to the needs of the 21st Century.

In my leisure time I compete my horse at national level and have enjoyed much success with him.

I look forward to working for and with you to move Rudgwick from "good" to "outstanding.

Headteacher Appointment Announcement

Following 2 days of rigorous selection assessments held earlier this week, the governing body is pleased to announce that Miss Kathleen Botting has been appointed as Headteacher of Rudgwick Primary School; Kathleen will be taking post at the beginning of next term, in the meantime Katharine Hikmet will continue in the role of acting Headteacher at the school.
