Masked Ball

Wednesday, July 08, 2009

The 4th of July - what an awesome experience; the weather was yet again ideal – that makes 4 out of 4!

The venue was the Espley home where a marquee provided free by the Wards was extended by a party tent to form a great gathering room. Gary Waite gave up a lot of free time to be the “resident” DJ for the evening.

Attendance was magnificent with 38 guests who arrived mainly by coach; everyone made a huge effort with some great masks, all the men wore black ties and the ladies looked gorgeous in their party frocks. Pimms on the lawn to get into the mood, was followed by dinner which was a casual affair with a variety of scrumptious food provided by everyone.  The liquid refreshments came free from Tescos using clubcard points! (Maybe we should all drive more economical cars!)

After a great dinner an auction, compered by Ian Hall,  was held of some exciting gifts all donated to the cause; an aerial photograph from Jordan Rivers-Scott; a hot air balloon trip also by Jordan; a cocktail party provided by Roz Joyner and Kate Wilford; a beauty voucher from Eclipse at Rudgwick; use of the village hall for a children’s party from the parish council; a bouncy castle from the Bargmans; and a fitness assessment with an hour of yoga from Denise Marlow. Significantly, on the night there were two additional lots provided by the Wadinghams and the Walkers of a trip in an E-type Jaguar and a Ferrari GT respectively. Everyone got into the spirit of the auction which raised a whopping £1045!

Following the auction the disco saw everyone strutting their stuff on the dance lawn before, sadly the return bus arrived.

A great evening that generated a very respectable £1650 towards the school construction project!

Thank you to all – especially John and Gayle Espley for organising and hosting the event.
